Reminder from previous newsletters:

I want to remind folks about random audits and that they have to have the 20 hours of continuing
education in pharmacotherapeutics. If giving controlled substances, 2 have to be specific of the 20 in controlled substances.

If you have any questions, please email Maggie at JohnsonM@LLR.SC.GOV.

Earlier note: We are getting ready to implement the multistate license beginning with our renewal on February 1, 2006. APRNs will not be able to have multistate, they will continue to renew their advanced practice for single state (the only states that have the Advanced Practice Compact are Utah and Iowa). The RN portion of the SC license will be marked "multistate". We also have four new options for continued competency and APRNs should use Option #2 which is national certification in their specialty which is a requirement in SC. If a NNP has prescriptive authority, at renewal, they will verify that they have 20 hours of continuing ed in pharmacotherapeutics with 2 specific to controlled substances if they are administering CS. In SC, APRNs can only write for schedules III-V and that should be reflected in their written protocols collaborated with their precepting physician(s).
