- 2005 CANNP Peer Recognition Award Winner
The annual CANNP Peer Recognition Award was
presented toRobin Bissingerat the
annual conference.
Robin is the Neonatal
Nurse Practitioner Team Coordinator and Assistant Professor and Director of the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
Program at MUSC.
The following
comments were submitted by two of her peers:
- Although she has a faculty/leader role, Robin
makes a concerted effort to maintain her clinical skills in the NICU. This may mean working beyond her
schedule, but it is the cornerstone of her philosophy: you must be able to do what you ask of others.
She is well respected as an excellent clinician by all disciplines - it is not uncommon to see an
attending asking her for clinical input on a difficult case. The nursing staff also values her input
and because of this, she is involved in many value enhancement projects that impact nursing care at the
bedside. Our teams' stability/success is a reflection of this individual's hard work. She is an
outspoken advocate of the practice group, often taking unpopular positions to assure that we are able
to continue to deliver quality care with adequate staffing, no small task in this era of cost
containment and number crunching. However, she does not do so without reflection and examination of
multiple practice models that will meet the needs of the NNP group, yet remain within the financial
vision of the hospital.
- As a team leader, she always challenges us to
stretch out of our comfort zone in our role. Whether assuming a faculty role, returning to school,
leading off a unit based project or running for a regional or national office, the message is always,
"I expect this from you, because I know you are capable of great things, and I will support you in any
way that I can".
