NANNP Update

by Lee Shirland

I am pleased to announce that the National Association of Neonatal Nurses has its first members! If you have not yet received a membership brochure, go to www.nannp.org , you can register and become a member on line.

The steering committee under the leadership of Robin Bissinger, has developed a position statement on the DNP as entry into practice. This will soon be available for members to view on line. A position statement on fatigue is being finalized and will be available soon.

You may have noticed on the back of the NANNP membership brochure that a copy of your license is required to join the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) , Perinatal Section. Joining AAP is not a requirement for NANNP membership but is an opportunity to join AAP and have your membership facilitated through NANNP. Future collaborations are planned with this valuable organization.

NNPs in North Carolina now renew their Nursing licenses using a card less system and cannot therefore send a copy of their Nursing license.

If you are an NNP from North Carolina wishing to join the AAP Perinatal Section, please send a copy of your certificate from the Medical Board and a copy of the letter you received from the Board of Nursing informing you that your Nursing license has been renewed. You may want to note on the letter from the Board of Nursing that NC has a card less system in place and therefore a copy of individual Nursing License is not available.

If you have not yet joined this only National organization for NNPs, please take time and do so as soon as possible. Have a voice in decisions that effect your practice and future career and career development. Make a commitment to make this a strong organization and voice for the NNP!

Join by August 31st and become a charter member.
